the birds

Despite the amazing mountain of sugary goods the lovely assistant had carefully selected for Halloween, we only had three trick-or-treaters come to the door: a Spiderman, a Bob Marley (friends with Spidey... I'm still not sure of the connection), and a kid with a purple-painted face and red cape who yelled what sounded like "Chuck or Treeee" at us from the lawn until we gave up waiting and called him up to the front door for candy. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of scary children around until I realised that meant the My Little Pony lolly bracelets and stickers would be all mine.

Also there to soften the blow was my brilliant new "The Birds"-inspired headband which I purchased from Etsy seller buffalump (love that name!), a.k.a. Buffalo Blue Designs.

Had I been leaving the house for Halloween, I would have put together a whole Tippi Hedren getup to go with the Birds: green suit, blonde bouffant, panicked expression; but instead I stayed in my regular clothes (brown bouffant, panicked expression...) and added 3 or 4 goths' worth of eyeliner. The lovely assistant approved and the cats were terrified, so my work was done.

Negative attitude.
PS: for more on my bony friend, see here

Of course the Birds don't have to be part of a costume! I plan to wear them throughout the year and one day might order the four-bird version.

Did I mention I was given a bonus Bird with my order?! The colour combination is so beautiful. This bird is bold and bright and I'm far less scared to turn my back on it than its sinister friends.
There has been a rush on the Birds following their mention on the Kingdom of Style blog, and as a result they'll only be available by special order for now. I got mine just in time, whew.  There are plenty of other lovely things still available in buffalump's shop - I really like the Urban Nomad abstract headbands too, especially in moss green and heathered grey.

PS: Why haven't I opened my Ed Wood box set yet?
PPS: If you can tell me which My Little Pony I owned as a kid, I'll send you some MLP stickers in the post. Not even lying.

I'm on a boat

In between nervously wondering if I played all my high cards with that gem of a video, I've been torturing myself with (i.e. browsing) the Browns website.  They stock a world-renowned, impressive and well-edited collection of shoes and clothes, many by my favourite designers.  My wishlist is getting longer and longer - well it was until I came across these perplexing Balenciaga shoes.

At first I laughed at their ugliness - they look like what might happen if gnarly old Quint from Jaws and Nurse Ratched were to run into each other at high speed.  The description - grey-green leather, platform, wedge-heeled boat shoes - certainly ticks all the boxes for hideous footwear... but I think I like them.  The colour is soft and pretty yet neutral, the silhouette is beautiful, and they even look comfortable for a pair of 5-inch heels.  Disturbingly I've already worked out several different ways to wear them with things from my own wardrobe, so it's probably lucky I don't have a spare $1300 rattling round in my purse or else I'd be exploring this strange feeling further!

what remains is future

I love fashion but generally look a bit of a mess. I have a confused personal style and a habit of buying multiples of things I like. You may have read my post about this on my other blog, R.W. Scissors. High Fashion Mountain is where I'm going to try to sort it all out. Here goes...
